Louise surprised me with a fantastic birthday extended weekend in Watercolor Florida. We stayed at the Water Color Inn. Friday and Saturday brought fly fishing on local inter-coastal estuaries where Lazarus and I caught many spotted sea trout. Saturday we had a picnic, live southern rock, and fireworks on the beach which was really cool. Only down south would they pair lobster and fried chicken on the same plate! Sunday is all about Kayaking which is very much our family sport. Monday will be an art shopping day before we head back to Montgomery. Lazarus and I have spent hours in the surf body boarding and doing battle with algae blooms. Louise really out-did herself as the designated family event planner. I feel older, but not old. I think this is really coming with the realization that both Salem and now Moriah are in college and rarely are with us and Lazarus is going to be 11 this year. Soon it will be just Louise and I. There are many inviting thoughts to look forward to there! 42 years of walking the earth and going strong.
Here are two pictures of the first fish Lazarus caught with a fly rod. We tossed them all back into the ocean. You always remember catching your first fish.
